America’s 250th Anniversary Part I: “This Land is Your Land Tour”

This year is America’s 250th Anniversary! We’re celebrating this special occasion by exploring our amazing history and natural wonders through a tour of America’s iconic Western frontier. Join us as we hop on the bus and explore “the ribbon of highway underneath the endless skyway” and visit the Black Hills of South Dakota. We will be visiting iconic places such as the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center along the Missouri River, the Akta Lakota Native American Cultural Center, Bad River Lewis & Encounter Site, Ft. Pierre National Grasslands, the Wagon Ruts of The Old 1876 Deadwood Trail, Bear Butte Native American Historic Site, National Military Cemetery in Sturgis, SD (Charles Windolph Grave; survivor of the Battle of Little Bighorn). This 5-day tour includes a 2-night hotel stay in Deadwood, SD, a guided Deadwood History Tour- including the grave site of Wild Bill Hickok, Mount Rushmore National Monument, Custer State Park- including buffalo herd, prairie dog towns, and other spectacular game animals, with lunch at the State Game Lodge. We’ll also be stopping at Wall Drug, tour the Badlands National Park, and also tour the Minuteman Missile Museum in Phillips, SD. “A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream Tour”: A Retreat into 19th Century Galena, Illinois

Galena, Illinois is known as “The Town that Time Forgot”- in a good way! It earns that title because of its 19th century feel, its’ historic downtown district, and mix of old time and modern day charms; this means that it’s a town that visitors never forget. You may choose to explore the town’s rich history, boutique shopping, or simply relax among the varied and unique downtown restaurants and storefronts. This will be a retreat-style travel experience where one can take a break from present day, and step into America’s historic past. While there, spend two nights within the historic Victorian style opulence of the DeSoto House Hotel, and enjoy a plated breakfast each morning in the courtyard atrium dining room. “A Stroll Through Minnesota’s Past”: Cemetery Hike Through Minnesota History

Join us as we recognize and share the life tales of those political, business and entertainment leaders that literally wrote the book on Minnesota history! Join our guided tour through the peaceful park-like settings of Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN and Oakland Cemetery in St. Paul, MN; as we relive history and stories of those that made it- including tales of the Dakota War of 1862, and the tale of the Barker-Karpis Gang kidnapping. Some of the amazing figures we’ll be exploring are people such as Hubert H. Humphrey, Paul Wellstone, Rudy Perpich, Tiny Tim, Governor Alexander Ramsey, Henry Sibley, Charles Flandreau, Harriet Bishop and Marshall Sherman. We’ll also visit several memorial monuments such as the Washburn Mill Monument, Minnesota Firefighter’s Monument, and the Grand Army of the Republic Monument. Lunch on this tour will be a fresh meal at Q. Cumber’s in Edina, MN.

Join us as we explore T.R.’s cowboy past with a tour through Theodore Roosevelt National Park; where we’ll see his first cabin the Maltese Cross, his Elkhorn Ranch location, and the incredible rugged badlands of North Dakota with wild horses, buffalo and other wildlife. “Historic Adventure Fall Color Tour”: A Birding Excursion with Sara Grover

This tour will be all the more educational and meaningful, as master naturalist and birder Sara Grover joins us as our interpretive guide on this fascinating day trip down the Mississippi. Our stops will include the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN, the Mississippi River backwaters Tundra Swan gathering site, the National Owl Center in Houston, MN.
